FRICTION LOSS CALCULATIONS MADE SIMPLE

AXIOM FLOW APP

“Methods are many, Principles are few”

Axiom Flow is a compact companion app designed for firefighters who’ve completed our brief training module. It delivers rapid friction-loss calculations for a variety of hose layouts used in training and on the fireground, letting you size lines and adjust pump pressures with speed and confidence. Built-in hydrant mapping shows the nearest hydrants to your location so you can plan water supply points quickly. Reliable, straightforward, and purpose-built for operational use—Axiom Flow keeps critical hose and hydrant data at your fingertips.

DISPATCH TO NOZZLE

DISPATCH TO NOZZLE (CAD awareness, hydrant mapping, and friction loss for firefighters and engineers) is a 2-hour course designed for certified firefighters and engineers/driver-operators. Built around the Axiom Flow PBC platform, this course closes two of the most critical knowledge gaps in modern fire suppression: the window between dispatch and arrival on scene, and real-time hydraulic decision-making under pressure.

Participants learn to leverage live CAD alert technology to receive dispatch notifications within seconds, identify water supply resources en route using mobile hydrant mapping, and calculate friction loss for single hoselines, various lead and supply line layouts, standpipe and high-rise operations, and available water supply — using both manual methods and the app's built-in hydraulic calculator. Developed and taught by a certified Florida Fire Service Instructor, the course requires nothing more than a smartphone and a browser. No hardware, no app install, no department network access required.

Reccommended but not required Prerequisites and Competencies

  • Successful completion of Driver/Operator (DCS) training.

  • Familiarity with friction loss principles, nozzle reaction, and standard hose-line calculations (flow rates, GPM, nozzle pressures, and equivalent lengths).

  • Experience operating fire apparatus pumps and managing basic water supply and relay pumping operations.

  • Ability to interpret pump charts, read pressure gauges, and apply simple pump-and-hose arithmetic under incident conditions.

Expected Capabilities After This Course

  • Confident application of advanced pump operation techniques and pump panel management.

  • Improved judgment for selecting hose sizes, lengths, and appliances to meet tactical flow requirements while minimizing excessive friction loss.

  • Enhanced coordination of water supply tactics, hydrant operations, and relay systems.

  • Greater ability to troubleshoot common pump operation problems and make rapid, safe pump setting adjustments in dynamic incident environments.

Recommended Prior Experience

  • Regular operational duty as a pump operator, driver/operator, or engine officer.

  • Participation in live-fire or hands-on pump practice evolutions.

  • Familiarity with department standard operating procedures for pumping and water supply

directions on how to apply for tuition reimbursement

Axiom Flow PBC offers education for firefighters and engineers — combining real-time CAD situational awareness, mobile hydrant mapping, and hydraulic calculations into a single 2-hour course.

Step 1: On any station computer, type Axiomflowus.com in the top URL bar. Scroll down until you see the black pill shaped button labeled “PDF to submit for tuition reimbursement”. After clicking on the button, the PDF flyer will pop up. Select save button in top right corner. Downloads folder will open under and the “This PC tab” and you will see “dispatch to nozzle flyer”. “Save as type” dropdown should default to PDF File. Select PDF if not. Press “Save” in the bottom right corner.

Step 2: From the PBC Home Screen click the EIS tab under the Online Applications. In the HRIS Login enter your Username and Password (same as your Outlook/365 username and password). Select “Apply for Tuition” in the left column.
